Question: VP
May 10, 2007 07:02 am

For funding reasons we are going to convert our company from a LLC to a C corp. What is the easiest and most cost effective way to do this on quickbooks? We want to ensure that the books and records are kept separate.

Question: Bank Account Defaults
May 10, 2007 07:04 am

I have a tax liability check that is printing with the wrong bank name.I have the defaults set to the correct bank. Looking on the screen the check says it is being printed on the correct account. But...when it prints, the check is printing with the incorrect bank account. (We have two banks) To look at everything, on screen and the set up for defaults in QB, it looks correct. But the check is still printing incorrecly. I have checked the settings and tried to re-edit the defaults to no avail. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you!

I'll assume that your preferences are OK and while I don't generally recognize that QB has any deficiencies, you might consider just renaming the account you want it to come out of something that starts with an A or a 1 to get it on top of the other account. By doing so, if QB is choosing the first listed bank account for whatever reason, it will select the one you want. Checking account harmony :)

Question: please HELP asap
May 10, 2007 07:07 am

hello, i have no idea if i am asking the right person as i know nothing about quickbooks. i have a situation and i need some help, pleaseee!! my uncle just recently passed, and we need into his quickbook account to get his tax stuff, and also people that owe him money from his business he had. the problem is that his computer tower is really old and it is no longer working, i took it into a repair shop and because it is so old it was not worth repairing so the files were backed up to a disk for me. so i downloaded a trial version of quickbooks but i cannot seem to open any of the files from the cd that were backed up. is it because the version my uncle was using was an older one? and the one i downloaded is 07/08? it says something about being a read only file so i unchecked the box that says 'read only' and then it started saying something about 'australasian and non-australasian' and compatibility but i have no idea what that means. i DO, however, know the password for his account, i just have no idea what do to. please help, the man that does his taxes told us that he organizes stuff in quickbooks for him, so we need to get into my uncles account asap. we dont have much of an extention to file his taxes. PLEASE HELP!!!!
my email address is jackorjill@adelphia.net thankyou so much

Thank you for your question. Here's a case where I think your best option is actually to hire one of the thousands of great Certified Pro Advisors like myself. I say that because you could have several issues at hand and a consultant with experience will know quickly what is going on or may take what you have and be able to open it on their systems.
I would take a stab that the issue may be that you're attempting to convert a company file to the latest version and the data resides on another computer. Upgrades generally need to be done "locally" The data being restored needs to be on the local hard disk for conversion.

Question: Assembly items set up
May 10, 2007 07:10 am

We manufacture drugs like paracetamol and package in units like 1000's and also blister packs of 10x10's. How do we set up so that we can track the raw materials usage and finished goods inventory?

If ever there was a quick question without a quick answer, this is it. What is important about your question is that the online edition is significantly different from the desktop edition when it comes to inventory.
If at all possible, I would recommend that you use the Manufacturing edition. Attempting to use QBOE for manufacturing is asking for an uphill battle.

One of the greatest benefits of QBOE is the fact that there is nothing to send.
Simply go to the help menu and type in users:adding in the search bar.
Presto; your CPA can now login to your accounting!

Question: quickbooks pro crashes
May 10, 2007 07:19 am

I have been experiencing crashes when I first log into the app. It says it is looking for a file. Never says what file. It used to be I culd re-boot and it would be fine. Now I reboot 6 or 7 times and still fail. I always send the crash dumps to quicken but never hear anything. Any ideas on what file is missing? I have re-loaded a couple of times to see if that would help. But no luck. Thank you

Your question hints at two separate issues.
One is that if you did use the online edition you would immediately resolve all of your crashing issues.
Second is that it sounds like you're blaming software for hardware issues. If you have the current version of QuickBooks and have the recommended hardware specifications I can virually guarantee that it will not crash. You can rebuild your database and make sure other programs aren't running at the same time to isolate the issue, but my guess is that you have old hardware.

Question: Nonprofit books and quickbooks 2007
May 10, 2007 08:08 am

We would like to upgrade from 2006 to 2007 however, I am not sure if version 2007 will work with Nonprofit books.

We currently use nonprofit books over Quickbooks 2006. It works fine; however, I understand that nonprofit books is no longer in business and we want to upgrade current version of Quickbooks 2006 to the latest version.

Any help will be appreciated.

Question: Correction from 2006 vs. correcting in 2007
May 11, 2007 07:35 am

I'm new to Quickbooks. I tried to delete what appeared to be a duplicate journal entry from April 2006 which had not reconciled. I somehow deleted an entry that HAD been reconciled/checked off. I re-input the info. but now it appears as unreconciled. How do I have the entry checked/reconciled. Do it as part of April 2007 reconciliation? This is all new to me. Thanks

Congratulations on choosing QuickBooks!
If you zap an old reconciled transaction and then re-create it, it will show as unreconciled the next time you reconcile the account. You simply check it off along with your next reconciliation exactly as you presumed :)
Keep in mind also that your beginning balance is going to disagree with that of the bank by the amount of that deleted and then re-created transaction.

Question: Receivables/Payables
May 11, 2007 07:40 am

We have a customer which is also a vendor. If we choose to adjust accounts instead of remitting checks to each other, would we do journal entries or issue credits? To issue credits would alter the sales for the month. If we did journal entries to a/c rec & a/c pay, how would we clear the invoices from the a/c rec & payables reports and/or registers?

This is an age old question and there is a firestorm of debate over the best way to handle your situation. Consequently, I'll tell you what I would do if I were in your shoes, but know that if you talk to 5 consultants, we may all have different ways and they may all get to the correct result.
You can issue credit memos for the amounts that you owe your vendor and use an item that maps to an expense account. The result will be reduced receivable from your customer and increased expense on the P&L.
A clearing account would be a more traditional response, but I'm not a big fan of clearing accounts due to the unnecessary complexity.

Question: SUBTOTALS/TOTALS ON LAST PG ONLY OF MULT PAGES
May 11, 2007 07:48 am

I just sent a message to QuickBooks regarding the above title. I want "Subtotal/Tax/Total" to show only on the last page of multiple page Estimates & Invoices.
There's gotta be a way, right?
If there isn't, I have a problem with QuickBooks for not being able to provide something so basic after taking thousands of dollars from me.

Your question leads into just how powerful the customer feedback at Intuit really is. While I cannot possibly settle your anger and dissappointment, I would love to be able to channel that into your going to the in-product feedback.
The folks at Intuit accumulate and priorizize the feedback they receive, and they only know about issues if they hear from users just like you. They do a tremendous job of seeking customer input and input from accountants like myself.
In all honesty I think you have a great suggestion, despite a poor attitude that I hope will change.

Thank you for your question. Many of the questions posted are a lot of product whining and commentary and I appreciate that you, like the vast majority of QB users wants to learn more, use the product to a greater extent, and benefit from the results.
One option you have is to seek a Certified ProAdvisor or better yet an Advanced Certified Pro Advisor who will consult with you on the topic of optimizing your user of QB.
To the extent you're using the depth of knowledge of the consultant specifically on the scope of optimization, you should find it comparably priced with a class.

Question: Scheduled Transactions
May 11, 2007 08:02 am

I tried setting up my bills as scheduled transactions. It didn't work too well My online bank statements didn't match to often or something would be off. My business doesn't really have that many scheduled bills so its not that hard to simply let my online banking track things like that but now I can't seem to clear the balances that QBOE seems to think my vendors are owed. How do I go about clear all my vendor balances?

I have just the answer for you. As one Intuit manager (Rich) told me one time, "I have three words for you, accountant.intuit.com"
What exactly a Certified Pro Advisor is is a great question. I would say that an advisor is someone who at a minimum has used QB and has been through the testing process and at the other end of the spectrum is someone like the approximatly 1,500 of us nationally who have made our career out of walking, talking, eating, and sleeping about QuickBooks.
