Question:

I recently started a business account. I want to put my personal checking account on Quickbooks but don't want to incorporate any of the information onto my business. Can I do that? I can't figure out how.
Please keep your business and personal separate. If you enter your personal checking as an account to your business chart of account, you'll be overstating your assets.
To track personal information, create a new QB file for these transactions.

I would like to set up an auto payment (rent) for each month. This is not an electronic payment. I want to actually print the check myself but would like it to show up automatically in my ledger. Is this possible? Thanks Jeanne
Open up Write Checks (CTRL + W), enter the date, payee, amount and account for the transaction, then check the "To Be Printed" box just under the check.
Now, go to Edit > Memorize Check... and tell QB whether you want to be reminded of the transaction or if you want it entered automatically, how often (probably monthly for rent) and the next date it needs to happen. If you select "Automatically enter", you can assign a date to stop it, as well as Days In Advance to enter it.
I have all my clients use this for recurring expenses such as rent.

I am new to QB (Jan. 08) and have mastered entering items, etc and now I need to know how I make an entry for mileage expense for an auto. (i.e. x miles times .45).
I have tried going to the accounts area under Auto Expense but don't know how quite to make the entry.
Can you walk me through this? It is not an item that you have as a cash expense.
To set up mileage rates, go to the Company menu, then select Enter Vehicle Mileage, then click Mileage Rates to make any adjustments. You can begin entering mileage and applying it to specific customer:jobs if necessary, as well as tell QB whether you need to bill that customer for the miles.
You'll also need to click the Vehicle List button to set up your vehicle(s) if you haven't done so already.
If this question is related to reimbursing an employee for mileage, you'll need to create a new Payroll Item that points to the proper expense account.

Is there a way to bring a delinquent balance forward to the current invoice. That is, if a customer has not paid his January invoice by the time I prepare the February invoices is there a way to bring the January outstanding balance forward so that it shows on the February invoice along with the balance due for the February invoice.
You can create a customer statement that will show all past due and current invoices. To do this, go to Customers > Create Statements... this will bring up a window with many options for preparing your statements such as doing them for all customers, one customers or selecting multiple customers.
You can choose to print statements for only customers with past due balances, with anything over a zero, as well as choosing to simply list invoice numbers, dates and totals or listing the details from each invoice.
I generally recommend that people play around with all the options available with this function to see what format is going to work best for them how their business flows.
This answer is from my favorite QB POS guru, Katherine Wynne-Jones of Wynne-Jones & Associates ( http://www.wynnejones.net ) :
"The short answer is:
No. A receiving voucher is a transactional document. By default for new users of
QBPOS 7.0, each time a receiving voucher is sent from QBPOS -> QBFS it is sent
as an Item Receipt. When the bill is received and noted in QBFS the Item
Receipt is changed to a Bill and is ready to pay. When you pay the bill you may
select more than one bill when paying the vendor"

I have this Epson TM-U6756 endorser/receipt printer.
I have it working with receipts, no problem.
Software Version Point of Sales Version 7.0
But for check endorsing. I figure I can set up a template for it saying something like "Pay to the order of" and have it printed on the back of the check.
Its set up in Windows XP, I can send test page to the endorser part of the printer.and it prints.
My question to you is, I make a sale, then I take a check. I've got the drawer to open and print a sales receipt. How do I get the software to send the "Pay to the order of" to the printer when I insert a check?

This was a post that was accidently deleted, that my favorite local QB POS guru, Katherine Wynne-Jones of Wynne Jones & Associates ( http://www.wynnejones.net ) was so kind to answer:
"Hi Stacy Kidal
I hope u can solve my problem.
I use QPOS 4.0 Multistore.
I don't want my employees know about my vendor.
Can i disable/hide vendor list menu & icon for login as associate/employee?
I don't want my employees know about qty on hand at the other store.
Can i hide qty on hand for other store at remote?"
Katherine's answer is:
"Unfortunately 4.0 does not allow you to disable the vendor list or hide
quantities on hand at your other locations. The good news is these things can
be done within the security rights area if you upgrade to the newest release,
QBPOS 7.0. There are several fine enhancements in QBPOS 7.0: schedule automatic
store exchanges, customer loyalty program, adding pictures to item record. To
see whats new visit www.quickbooks.com"
Question:
opening data base with an older version of Quick Books Jan 31, 2008 11:02 am
I need to take my qbw data base over to the tax people and they only have QB versuib 6. I have Quick Books 7.0 pro. Will they be able to open the data base? If not can I install my copy of QB 7.0 on their machine temporarily just to serve this purpose? is there a Quick Books viewer available for download to look at data base files?
Unfortunately, no - there is no way for your tax preparer to view your company file. My suggestion would be for them to upgrade to the Premier Acct's version of QB.
With 2008, they'll be able to open both 2008 and 2007 accountant's copy files without upgrading the 2007 files.
I would direct them here to purchase (free shipping or immediate download) the latest Premier Accountant's Version:

I am currently taken a college class on computer accounting using Quickbooks 2007.We save our work on a USB zip.I have at home Quickbooks pro edition 2003 and Quickbooks instuit Contractors edition 2008. Can I open my file from the USB,my homework?
You'll be able to use your class file on your computer at home by upgrading it to your 2008 version. However, once you do that, you will not be able to take the file back and open at class with 2007...
Question:

I understand that QB will no longer support the payroll tax tables for 2005 and prior prior versions of QB starting March, 2008. Is that true? And if so, what can we do? From the Blogs, we are concerned about implementing 2006 and above because of all of the technical problems (conversion, reporting, backup and other technical issues). Please advise.
Thank You
Intuit supports QB software for three years, generally ending in May (so your 2005 will most likely no longer be supported after May of this year).
I highly recommend upgrading to the 2008 version, especially if you subscribe to one of the payroll services. I've done 11 upgrades to 2008 so far (one from 1999!) and had no adverse effects or experienced any technical problems.
